Mixed Steps was written in the span of a month for the ARRAYMUSIC 2001 young composers workshop. The first movement juxtaposes distinct shifts between freer atonal sections and jazzy bits. In the second movement the tune “Giant Steps’ is used as a cantus firmus for a slow and static movement.
