THE PROJECT

10 Associate Composers have written short 2–5 minute works for New Brunswick singer Helen Pridmore and clarinetist Wesley Ferreira. These works will be based on French texts found at the Grand Pré National Historic Site of Canada.

VENUE

The Grand-Pré National Historic Site of Canada commemorates Grand-Pré area as a centre of Acadian settlement from 1682 to 1755 and the Deportation of the Acadians, which began in 1755 and continued until 1762. They have a visitor centre and a church. The visitor centre is conveniently located half-way between the highway (exit 10) and Wolfville. It is also along the bus route which is ideal for students. It has a wide open space inside that would be ideal for holding a concert. The new Visitors Reception and Interpretation Center houses a multimedia theatre, an exhibit hall, a gift shop, a multipurpose room and administration area along with other visitors' facilities such as restrooms, public phones, etc.

The Grand Pré National Historic Site of Canada has agreed to open this unique space for one day in the dead of winter free of charge. This is a unique site that does not typically hold concerts, and I believe the location is ideal to attract a different audience than a normal concert venue.
