Midas Brass Quintet - 4th Movement
Written in England, 1997 for the Midas Brass Quintet, a student ensemble formed at the Royal Academy. I wanted to write a work that highlighted different facets of brass playing, the first and last movements are upbeat, while the middle two are more lachrymose in character. I wrote this during a time when I was still playing the trumpet (before switching over to the flute for good...!) This work is virtuosic. It requires two C trumpets, horn in F, tenor trombone and tuba.
